7 hours in a car

Today was basically spent in a car.  We left around 6:30 am and headed north to pick up our daughter from college.  She had to be out of her dorm by noon. After a brief stop at the Walmart in the town where she attends school (sort of success, we were able to find a few of the items that we haven’t been able to find back home (send TP)) we arrived on campus at 11:00 am.  Kristen had a friend available to help load the car.  After loading the car, we are lucky that we were able to get Kristen into the car. As you can see, there really wasn’t much space.  I don’t know that she had to bring everything home, but she did.

We grabbed a quick lunch of Mabe’s Pizza to eat on the way home and back into the car for another 3 hours of driving. We finally arrived home around 3:00, altogether we were gone for about 8 1/2 hours. Tomorrow we begin to figure out our new normal for at least a few weeks.

In case you are curious, this is just the 31 bags that my daughter had filled and used to bring things home.  There are 19 bags here, she also had 4 suitcases, a couple of backpacks, a couple of crates, two instruments, and a few duffle bags.  The sad thing is that there is still plenty of stuff in her dorm room to bring home.

Hopefully, when she heads back after Easter we don’t have as much stuff heading back with us.

  1. I am glad that she is able to be home with you, where you can reassure yourself that she is safe and healthy. My goodness, though, that is a lot of stuff! Dorm rooms must be bigger now than when I went to college!

  2. I’m glad you got her home. We brought 2 of ours home. One completely moved out. The other just found out that she has to move everything out. The school told them to go home without moving dorm stuff but now we have to go back when things settle. Enjoy your daughter!
